United Nations: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for a global partnership to tackle climate change and fight for inclusive green growth.

He made the call in a video message during the Green Growth Partnership and the World Summit on the 2030 Goals hosted by South Korea on Sunday, the Xinhua news agency reported.

“The title of this initiative expresses exactly what the world needs now, a global partnership: a partnership to defeat Covid-19 and build a better recovery, a partnership to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and a partnership to fight change. climate, ”he said at the summit.

Tackling climate change head-on will help protect the most vulnerable people from the next crisis while supporting a job-rich recovery after Covid-19, according to Guterres.

The first priority is the absence of new coal-fired power stations and the phase-out of the use of coal by 2030 in the countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, and 2040 in the rest of the world, a added the UN chief.

“In addition to the emissions gap, I am deeply concerned about the funding and adaptation gaps.”

He added that developed countries had yet to honor their commitment of $ 100 billion per year in adaptation assistance.

“We urgently need a breakthrough in adaptation and resilience. I call on all donor countries to dramatically improve their financial commitments. This includes allocating 50 percent of climate finance to adaptation. and providing a higher level of subsidies. “

The G7 summit in June must achieve all of these goals, Guterres said, adding that it is not a global partnership if some are struggling to survive.
